Spanish Zoos
SPAIN, SEPTEMBER 2011 - Spanish Zoos
Animal Equality's investigation team has carried out a year-long undercover investigation into the most important zoos in Spain. Several activists have documented the life of enslaved animals in these zoos through photos, videos and expert reports. Zoos, contrary to popular belief, are often little more than psychological torture and extermination centres for animals. Animals in zoos are caged for life and deprived of the opportunity to develop and fulfill the full range of their interests and needs. They lose control over their lives and the environment they live in. Social animals are often forced to live in the misery of solitary confinement. Animals who would prefer to live alone are often forced into close contact with others.

The killing of minks
SPAIN, MARCH 2011 - The Killing of Minks
Activists from the Animal Equality Investigation Team have recorded for the first time in Spain the killing of minks. The images were taken in one of the largest mink farms in Spain, Eurozeltifur, which is located in Carral (Galicia). Most of the mink on fur farms are killed between November and December, except for the animals that are kept for breeding stock for the following year. These animals are killed in March and frozen for their pelts until the winter. They are gassed to death. Animal Equality has documented how minks are forced out of their cages by farmers and thrown violently into the gassing box. Seventy minks are crammed inside. Once inside, they can remain alive for over fifteen minutes, making desperate attempts to escape.

The killing of minks
SPAIN, MAY 2010 - 172 Pig Farms investigated
Animal Equality presents an exhaustive investigation into Spanish pig farms, documenting the lives and deaths of pigs over a period of more than two years - from August 2007 until May 2010 - on farms and in slaughterhouses throughout Spain. This intensive work comprises the largest investigation into animal exploitation so far carried out in Spain. Sixty Animal Equality activists have physically entered a total of 172 pig farms in the regions of Andalusia, Aragon, Castilla Leon, Castilla Leon, Castilla La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, the Basque Country and Valencia. We have been infiltrated in the fourth largest pig farming sector in the world - only behind the USA, China and Germany - and recorded, amongst other events, how workers routinely kill pigs by slamming them against the floor or how pigs are hit, kicked or have fingers thrust into their eyes to force them to stand or walk.
