A runner of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain has died at a Hospital in Navarra this morning, after undergoing surgery on his neck, he had a severe wound caused by the fourth bull of the day, named Cappuccino.
"In the operating room he has undergone a surgical exploration that showed that his injuries were incompatible with life," said Javier Sesma, head of the Emergency hospital. The young Daniel Jimeno of Alcala de Henares, Madrid, suffered a wound caused by the bulls horn that affected the left lung, the aorta and cava.
As was confirmed by the counselor of the Health department of the Government of Navarre, María Kutz at the press conference, the young man suffered a wound that made him lose a lot of blood and have cardiac attack, he was taken to the Hospital of Navarra, where they tried to reanimate him without success.
From Animal Equality we regret the death of this runner, but we also want to remind people that Daniel Jimeno went voluntarily to the running of the bulls where he exposed himself to the risks these events imply, to have fun at the expense of animals. The bulls who run through the streets have been forced to participate in the running, they had no choice, even though they do not wish to be subjected to all the stress and suffering that they undergo. For the bulls the running is the first part of a death march that will end with them agonizing. Each and every one of them will be killed in slaughterhouses or at a bullfight, unfortunetly they will also become victims of the running of the bulls, but will not be included in the official list of victims.
The running of the bulls and other shows with animals are unfair practices, rooted in tradition, that maintain the idea that its permisable to the subjugate animals for the amusement of some humans. We want to remind people that there are many ways to have fun without hurting others, and we believe that society in Navarre should consider changing their tradition. We would also like to encourage tourists no to support the 'Running of the Bulls' in any way as much of the event is financed by the tourism it atracts, tourists and other supporters must remember that they are supporting animal torture, suffering and death.
