Major Meat Company Invests in a Clean Meat Future

United States

Memphis Meats, a leading 'clean meat' company, has just gained support from an unprecedented coalition of food industry leaders and famous philanthropists.

The company announced that it received $17 million in funding and achieved several industry firsts.

A spokesperson for Cargill, a meat industry giant, said : "Our investment in Memphis Meats is an exciting way for Cargill to explore the potential in this growing segment of the protein market."  Memphis Meats, which grows animal cells into meat in a laboratory setting without the necessity of slaughter, also received funding from Virgin Group founder Richard Branson and billionaire Bill Gates. To date, the organization has received more than $22 million towards a more compassionate future for animals.

Co-founder and CEO of Memphis Meats, Dr. Uma Valeti, said: “We’re going to bring meat to the plate in a more sustainable, affordable, and delicious way.” The company says its process uses about 1% of the land and 10% of the water needed for conventional animal agriculture.

With the recent funding, the company intends to use the money raised to continue developing products, scaling up clean meat production, and reducing production costs to levels below what conventional meat requires.

Clean meat could completely transform the way the world eats.

Companies and investments like these prove that clean meat and plant-based living are the future.
